The Early Works gallery gives me a chance to show you how my skills have
progressed. It can be very frustrating being unable to translate the image in my
head into a real picture. This gallery therefore represent a somewhat mish-mash of early work from the 1980s as I got back into art during and after university. Hopefully the progression from a somewhat
primitive style to something more my own can be seen. I like some ideas here and may redo a few someday.
This period was the start of me getting back into drawing. I'd always drawn when
young but neglected it in my teenage years. I started again whilst I was still
at university. I found that it relaxed me during my exams. This proved to be
counter productive as I recall spending more time thinking of my next drawing
rather than my studies.

Blue Mountain
Is it fantasy? Only in the sense that it came straight out of my head, but it's indicative of what I was doing at the time.

PathWays
An early work indicating that composition wise, I still had a lot to learn.

Towers
Perhaps I should have called this 'Lost and Found'. I had completely forgotten about this painting and it only came to light when I asked friends and family if they had any of my pictures.

Journey To An Imaginary Land
Inspired by the album of the same name by an Austrian multi-instrumentalist by the name of
'Gandalf' so perhaps its inclusion here is appropriate. Copyright - 1985.

Sacrifice
Another early work as I developed my own style. The dragon is based on a photo of a Komono dragon. The "sacrifice" was added towards the end as the composition needed something. The kinky boots were an afterthought and added as a joke.

Siren
Heavily influenced by the work of Roger Dean, this was one of the first paintings I ever sold.
