Castles

Castles - Copyright Alistair Hamilton

A reworking of an earlier image and the second in an abandoned series of four paintings. Copyright - 1989.

Acrylics. A2 - 590mm x 420mm.

Airbrushed using liquid acrylics. This painting involved painstaking masking work using plastic masking film, trimmed in position using a modelling scalpel. This process started from the centre rear of the image, working its way to the edges of the image. Though I was very please with the effect, the process was just too slow for my liking and I've never done it again.

At one stage, the plan was to have one or two futuristic jets in the near field flying out of the cave, but in the end I decided against it. I always find it a difficult decision - when to stop? It's so easy to continually add to a piece of art. Fortunately, I think I made the right decision in this case.
