Homeward Bound

Private commission - this image depicts a weary soldier taking a rest whilst returning home from the war. Copyright - 1986.

Acrylics and felt tip pen. A1 - 840mm x 599mm.

The background was airbrushed using liquid acrylics over a hand painted rock formation. Everything else was hand painted with the exception of the detail on the bark, which was done using felt tip pen. The image here is a bit grainy as it was taken from a 35mm slide. I no longer have access to the original.

I honestly cannot remember what inspired this image, but it is significant as it is one of the earlier examples of how my technique had matured into what my 'style' is to this day. For that I have to pay homage to the great fantasy artists of the 1970s and 1980s.
