Icons
Inspired by and painted as the cover for the album of the same name by Glyn Lloyd-Jones. Click here for a 30 sec sample of the title track. © - 1987. Transparent inks and gouache. A1 - 840mm x 599mm. Sky and mist effects done using airbrushed inks and gouache. The rocky spires and foreground were done by hand. The creatures were airbrushed with highlights hand painted. You'll notice that the 'Icon' on the right is the mirror image of the one used in an earlier work, 'Siren'. I often re-use ideas from previous images but it tends to be from abandoned or failed pictures that those elements get another chance. It is unusual to take something from a finished work but in this case it fitted perfectly to what I was trying to achieve. Again, you may notice yet another small homage to the fantasy artists of the past. In this case, the horsemen in the distance doff their caps to Roger Dean's cover for the Yes album, 'Relayer'. |
