Sacrifice
Another early work as I developed my own style. The dragon is based on a photo of a Komono dragon. The "sacrifice" was added towards the end as the composition needed something. The kinky boots were an afterthought and added as a joke. © - 1985. Watercolours and gouache. A4 - 295mm x 210mm. The sky was a standard wash in watercolour. The dragon and woman were done in gouache with the rocks and sea in watercolours. Much of my early work around this time was heavily influenced by my favourite album covers of the 1970s and 1980s. I was trying to develop my own style but at the same time achieve the same atmospheric feel that my favourite fantasy artists of the time were able to achieve. It wasn't until I was given a decent airbrush as a Christmas present that I took a giant leap towards the type of art I wanted to produce. |
