Siren
Heavily influenced by the work of Roger Dean, this was one of the first paintings I ever sold. © - 1985. Watercolours, gouache and Tippex! A4 - 295mm x 210mm. The sky and sea are standard washes in watercolour. The siren and rock formations are gouache along with the foreground sea details. Tippex was used to give very bright stars, though the effect is lost somewhat having retrieved this image from a rather grainy 35mm slide. I'm very disappointed at not having access to a decent copy of this picture. Fortunately, I'm a better painter than a photographer! This image has a particular fondness for me as it really marked a see change in my technique and is indicative of the way I wanted to go. In many ways, I wish I'd never sold it. I was so fond of the 'siren' and her pose, I used a reverse image of her on 'Icons'.
